i doubt this quiz was supposed to turn out this long...

oh man. this is gonna take some thinking. when i have to answer questions about music, i take forEVER. hehe, but the sweet elabee has commissioned a few of us (or 'passed the stick to us') to take this lil' quiz.

so here ya go, you lucky devil you:

1) What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
hang on a sec (how do you find that out?)...ahHa, ok. 861.

2) The last CD you bought is?
Gavin DeGraw, Stripped AND George Strait, 50 Number Ones

3) What is the last song you listened to before this message?
Lilac Wine, Jeff Buckley

4) 5 songs you often listen to or mean a lot to you?

here are 5 that I listen to a lot:

-Breathe, Anna Nalick
-The Blower's Daughter, Damien Rice (dear GOD, i love that song.)
- Let Go, Frou Frou
-A Waltz for a Night, Julie Delpy
-Wonderwall, Ryan Adams' version

OK people. there is NO way i can list just FIVE songs. right? i mean seriously. huhghr. (that was a big, throaty sigh. Napolean Dynamite style, if you will.)

ok just a few more, i swear. here are 5 that mean a lot to me for various reasons:

-The Awakening (TTBB arr.) composed by Joseph Martin. this song was performed by the men the first year i made the Texas All-State Choir. it's the most beautiful, moving choral piece from a modern composer, and i cry nearly every time i hear it.

-Beauty for Ashes, Crystal Lewis. a song that was popular in Christian music back when i was 16. my best friend Amy's mom, Toni, and I loved this song, and used to sing along to it on the radio. it was one of the songs played at her funeral that year, and of course i'll never forget it.

-North Dakota, Lyle Lovett. my choir director from my last 2 years of high school was my best friend. he asked me to sing background vocals for him on this song for our final concert senior year. one of the saddest, most poignant moments in my life because i knew everything was about to change. and everything did. nothing has been the same since that step out of high school and into life.

-Like It Was, Stephen Sondheim. i sang this in my musical theater workshop at Baylor and for a showcase for incoming freshmen at my 2nd college, Hunter. it's a great song, and it seems to surprise everyone who hears it. the last line is so perfect, and the music is gorgeous.

-And So It Goes, Billy Joel. we sang a jazz version of this song by the King's Singers in high school. the lyrics are so perfect, so true. it's about being afraid of love, of heartbreak, of taking a leap of faith on someone despite that fear. you should listen to it or read the lyrics, at least.

incidentally, if anyone ever wants to know song lyrics, you should check out this site. it has pretty much everything. i visit it no less than 5 times a week.

5) Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons and why)?

-dcdemocrat because she had an hour-long IM conversation with me earlier because i was freaking out about my credit cards and bills and just money in general, and i like her.

-muppet23 because she makes me laugh a LOT and i'm curious to know a bit about her musical tastes.

-clarity25 because i'm just getting to know her, and she's super-interesting.

have at it, folks!
