weekend in washington...

the last 4 days in a nutshell (ok, so not as much of a nutshell as a play-by-play):

SATURDAY:

--woke up later than planned (shocker), went to the car shop and had them change my oil and other crap like that (though guaranteed they'd finish in no more than one hour, it took TWO).

--drove to washington D.C. to visit myquestions; got there around 8:30 pm, just in time for dinner.

--we got cute and then headed over to the 9:30 club to see this band play called...Umphrey's something. i think. a friend of ours has a friend who is friends w/them from notre dame or something like that. who really knows? anyway, they were quite good/entertaining, and they drew the strangest crowd of underage hippies i've ever seen gathered in one place. but anyway. afterward the 5 of us walked to bry's house and played cards for a bit (with some nasty-arse miller lite or something equally narsty). then realizing we were in a bit of an undesirable neighborhood, we called a cab and took it home. didn't get to bed till...REALLY late. let's just say it was morning and the sun was almost up. k great.

SUNDAY:

--slept till 1. got up, went to the national museum of natural history; good times. we mostly looked at the dinosaur/fossil wing and the wing w/all the gems/diamonds. yay.

--ate dinner at Thaiphoon at Dupont Circle (a yummy, yummy YUMMY dinner), and i even tried the spring rolls, which were surprisingly good w/the sauce, considering i don't like raw vegetables. i had the #24, Pik Kaur, and it was SO good, i had to force myself to stop eating because i was full to the brim.

--went home for a bit, then decided to get some starbucks and go for a driving tour of the monuments. i had a gingerbread latte, and it was pretty good. sadly, most of the monuments weren't lit for some reason, but i'd seen most of them before, so it's all good.

MONDAY:

--went to the mall in Virginia for the sole reason of going to sephora so i could smell Lacoste's cologne for men. YUM. i love cologne. she bought a fun comprehensive color kit from Stila, and i bought nothing because i'm REALLY good. *pat on back*

--she dropped me off for lunch with bry, which turned out to be really short because he had a last-minute meeting about the upcoming trial of saddam hussein (which he was apparently completely unprepared for, and it showed--he was definitely distracted). then i met H back in virginia where she'd been having lunch w/her friend. we went to the grocery store and then home to get ready for the evening.

--later that night we went to this crazy political dinner party where i brushed shoulders with various people like an Ambassador lady (who i won't name because she thinks i was in from New York, attending the party because i "helped out on the campaign in new york," which of course i didn't), john kerry's brother "Cam," lots of lobbyists, and the chairman of the democratic national committee. i love schmoozing. i love meeting people. whee!

--then we ran home and deliberated over what to wear for so long that we got to the Gavin Degraw concert WAY later than we'd wanted (another shocker). at least we were in before he started, but still. he was absolutely wonderful and beautiful and funny and just damn cute. i want to marry him and have his children who would all be kick-ass singers and musicians (and also awfully cute). bry was supposed to come but didn't show. or call. and still hasn't as i write this. (yet another shocker.) we had a great time at the concert and H took a few pics, so hopefully she'll send them to me and i can post 'em on here.

TODAY (TUESDAY):

--woke up at noon, got ready, drove home. I didn't get here till about 6:30, which MAN that took a long time, but today's drive was much better than saturday's because it was daytime for all but the last hour and a half, and i was more awake to begin with. i stopped a few times for (1)burger king (2)gas (3)a caramel macchiatto at starbucks (4)to pee three times and (5)boston market for dinner.

and that brings us to now, where i'm boringly recounting to you minute details of my trip to D.C. lucky you!

i love D.C. i hadn't been in about 7 years, and it is just lovely. it's so...city without being city. if that makes any sense. it's like a small town city. i dunno, but it really is a lovely place. not to mention the Metro is (1)incredibly clean and warm (2)about 14 times easier to navigate than new york's system and (3)did i mention it was clean?? H's apartment is just adorable. she lives on Capitol Hill in a cute townhouse. if i were into politics, i would move there in a heartbeat. not to mention the salaries there are INSANE. it's unbelievable how much kids my age are making already. and plus, their license plates say "taxation without representation" which is just funny.

well, i think this particular entry has gone on long enough, what do you think? yes? you agree wholeheartedly? well don't all jump at once, now. i guess i'm off to read and get some rest. maybe i'll get some work between now and saturday, when i head south for christmas. here's hoping...
